Application: Opening doors using the latch wire method
The latch wire is inserted through the gap between the door leaf and frame using the appropriate side. If the gap is tight, the door leaf may need to be gently pressed inward by hand or with our door lever.
Once the wire is inside the gap, it is angled so that pulling it downward makes contact with the latch bolt. The latch is typically located just above the door handle height.
A controlled levering motion is then used to retract the latch and open the door. If the latch resists, the following techniques can help:
- light tapping on the door leaf
- gently pulling the door toward the frame
With a little practice, this method is highly reliable and preserves both the door and lock components.
